[Abstract]
The current design of the nature education course encounters several obstacles, such as limited content, a lack of connection to school courses, and inadequate planning. These challenges prevent protected areas from fully leveraging their unique attributes and applying knowledge in outdoor context. By thoroughly analyzing international examples of nature education courses and comparing the practical experiences of different protected areas, this paper concentrates on the nature education program created for the Nanwan Castanopsis hystrix Provincial Nature Reserve in Shanwei, Guangdong. The paper aims to develop a framework for designing nature education courses that consider the existing knowledge system of primary and middle school students, along with their individual interests. A '2+2' two-linkage course design model has been constructed, which provides a practical approach for protected areas to enhance their unique characteristics and promote the application of knowledge in outdoor settings.
