柳宗元是中唐时期著名的造园家，其在中唐社会文化转型的历史背景下较早地进行了园林设计的理论思考和实践探索。从《柳宗元全集》中筛选园林诗、园记等文献并提取园林设计的相关信息，结合相关史志和今人研究，通过文献研究、文本分析和归纳总结相结合的方法，从设计考察、设计分析和设计表达 3 个方面对柳宗元园林设计思想进行全面且集中的透视和解析。结果表明柳宗元进行园林设计遵循着基于自然审美的设计考察、自然特征的设计分析以及自然和谐的设计表达3 个方面的设计路径，体现出“顺应自然”的核心理念。柳宗元对于人与自然关系的这种设计理解，为当今城市园林化、生态化建设提供了参考。

Liu Zongyuan, a renowned garden designer during the Middle Tang Dynasty, engaged in early theoretical contemplation and practical investigation of garden design amid the sociocultural shifts of the era. This study meticulously examines Liu Zongyuan's garden-related works, including poems and records, by extracting insights on garden design from the Complete Works of Liu Zongyuan, supplemented by historical accounts and contemporary research. Employing a methodological approach that integrates literature review, textual analysis, and inductive reasoning, the paper presents a detailed exploration of Liu Zongyuan's garden design philosophy across three dimensions: design exploration, design analysis, and design articulation. Findings reveal that his approach was rooted in a natural aesthetic, emphasizing a study of natural elements and an expression of natural concord, embodying the principle of 'harmony with nature.' Liu Zongyuan's insights into the humannature nexus offer valuable lessons for modern urban garden planning and ecological design.
